Pakistan Profile and Demography |
| The
Islamic Republic of Pakistan has an area of 307,374 square
miles (796,095 square kilometers), with an overall
population density of 182 persons per square kilometer
(range 19 – 4136). There are four provinces and two regions.
Provinces are Punjab (the most populous), Sindh, North
Western Frontier Province (NWFP) and Balochistan (largest by
area); and regions are Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and
Federally Administered Northern Area (FANA). High-risk
populations are the populations residing in the high density
cities. Afghans and Hindu community are more likely to have
poliovirus transmission. The major concentrations of Afghan
migrants are found in Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi. Hindu
populations are mostly concentrated in Sind particularly in
Hyderabad and Jacobabad. |
