National Surveillance Cell
Organization of AFP Surveillance includes the establishment of National Surveillance Cell (NS CELL) with the provincial desks in Islamabad to coordinate the AFP surveillance activities at the National level. NS CELL is carrying out the core functions (detection, confirmation, analysis, response) and support functions (training, supervision, communication, resource management). Four provincial desks have been created in the cell looking after all the four provinces, AJK and FANA and there is one Data Management Cell which  is responsible for timely transmission of weekly polio update to the main office of in Cairo EMRO & Data Analysis, Data Management & making maps . WHO has also recruited Surveillance Officers (SOs) at the district level. The job of these field officers is to establish active Surveillance both in public and private sector health facilities for AFP cases by frequently visiting hospitals, rehab centers, GPs, pediatricians and community leaders. Their work is also to ensure the quality of the data.
